HS Girls Ultimate Frisbee Team – Head Coach

Montclair Ultimate is seeking an enthusiastic Head Coach to lead our HS Girls Ultimate Frisbee Team for the upcoming 2026 spring season and beyond. As this is our inaugural season, we are looking for someone who doesn’t just know the game, but is excited to build a positive, inclusive and fun team culture from the ground up! This program serves high school girls and non-binary players from Montclair and the surrounding area who are looking to develop their skills in a competitive, spirited, and supportive environment.

The Head Coach is responsible for teaching fundamental and advanced Ultimate techniques (for both new players and established athletes), fostering a positive team culture, and upholding the Spirit of the Game. Practices take place at Anderson Park in Montclair, NJ, and games can be local or in the broader NY/NJ region.

Season & Schedule

• Season Dates: early March – early June.

• Weekday Practices: 3 days/week from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM

• Weekend Practices: 1 day/week from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM (unless a game or tournament is scheduled).

• Expected Hours: Approximately 8 practice hrs, +2 administrative hrs per week.

• Tournaments: Approximately 4 tournaments are anticipated throughout the season.

Key Responsibilities

• Spirit of the Game: Instill principles of respect, integrity, and fair play while providing a positive environment where players feel comfortable attempting new skills.

• Instruction & Strategy: Plan and conduct engaging practices and game-day strategies to support players with a range of abilities.

• Team Management: Maintain effective communication with players, parents, and board leadership, keeping everyone informed and excited.  

Note that assistant coaches are already lined up to support the Girls Head Coach as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience: Experience coaching or playing Ultimate, with a strong knowledge of fundamentals, rules, and coaching techniques.

• Leadership: Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a commitment to fostering a fun and inclusive team environment.

• Certification: Must hold a current USAU Youth Coach Certificate. Montclair Ultimate will reimburse you for the costs involved.

• Compliance: Must complete a background check via a USAU provider, maintain current SafeSport training, and complete USAU-approved concussion training. Montclair Ultimate will reimburse you for the costs involved.
  
  

Compensation

• Hourly Rate: $30.00 per hour.

• Administrative Pay: Head Coaches are automatically paid an additional 2 hours per week to cover anticipated administrative time and planning.
